I enjoyed The Last Flight and so I was excited to read another book by Julie Clark - The Lies I Tell. This book focuses on a female con artist and a woman who wants to expose her and bring her down.
I enjoyed the premise of the book, but I did find some of the chapters, particularly the ones focusing on the real estate business a little confusing. I think some of this could have been cut or simplified to make for a more exciting read as it did drag a little in places. There's also a lot of individual threads going on to make up the plot which although sounds exciting, felt a bit confusing. I did really like the cat and mouse element of the chase though and how you weren't really sure how much Meg knew about Kat, with the letters showing up to her house as well to complicate things.
The Lies I Tell is a fast paced read though and relatively short - enough to keep you entertained without getting too frustrated. It isn't a stand out read of the year but it's worth a flick through if you spot it somewhere and need a holiday read, for example.
Overall, The Lies I Tell is a fast paced read which does get a little confusing at times but is worth a read. Thank you to NetGalley & Hodder & Stoughton for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Twisted
Wow! What a twisted journey this was!
I loved this con story more than I could ever imagine. The con within a con intrigued me and with each additional bit of information shared with the reader, I became more engrossed in the story of these two ladies.
While Kat and Meg each had things that were undesirable for a heroine in a story, they were both some of the most interesting characters I've read in quite some time. I was sure that I would find myself harshly judging Meg, despite her early beginnings. There were definitely times that her actions merited that judgment. However, as her journey is slowly revealed and each layer of her past and the progression that brought her into the current time and place is exposed, I actually was cheering her on. And I didn't have a clue how it was all going to end.
Kat was a bit harder to connect with, which was surprising considering her place in the story. However, a twist here, another there, and I couldn't wait to see what Kat's end result was going to be. I have to confess, I had a lump in my throat as I read those last few lines.
This has a slower pace to it, but was impossible to put down. Nothing is repetitive and while this isn't filled with drama, danger, and lots of action, it was fraught with tension as these characters move through the inevitable actions they've either designed or hunted for. I highly recommend this to those who enjoy a mystery within a mystery and unique characters that you'll never forget.
