They gaze from the ship at the busy port town of Jaffa. Beyond the water's edge lies the land of their dreams. Arach plans to work with the Jewish National Fund to purchase land for the new settlers, coming in increasing numbers in the second aliyeh. They settle in Jerusalem, and everything seems perfect. June, 1917 Ten years later, Yitzhak, drawn by the heady dream of a Jewish nation, joins the Circle. He soon learns that its charter is death to the enemies of Zionism, and only death can release him from its claws. Palestine is torn apart: Jews against Arabs, Arabs against Arabs, and Jews against Jews. The siren of a Jewish state drives many Jews forward, but for some among the Jews there is a different vision-a Palestine where all peoples of all faiths are equal citizens in a Palestinian state. Yitzhak's father, Arach, and his sister, Sarah, share that vision.
