Long War Series of Christian Cameron
Cameron's fictional series based on the life of real Greek hero Arimnestos of Plataea continues into its fourth volume. In "The Great King" the Greeks continue to squabble among themselves, even though they realize that Xerxes forces are on the march. This series is exceptionally well-written, and reveals the author's encyclopedic knowledge of ancient history, as well as his detailed knowledge of ancient close combat, gained from extensive experience as a reenactor. Historical fiction at its finest.
