The best tale of Mark Twain
I don't know any scene in the Adventures of Tom Sawyer that is more remarkable than the one
in which Tom hoodwinks his friends into whitewashing the fence. No person except Mark
Twain could have told this story and I believe it was what made Twain great. All leaders
of the civilized world should read this book and then hurry to the Adventures to read the
rest of the story. I have had many bosses who could have learned from this scene and
I only had one who knew the importance of it. Was Tom a goldbrick? Far from it. This is
the kind inventiveness that bosses look for and if I were a boss I would look for in my
employees. I wish I could thank Mark Twain personally.
