I am always in awe of historians who can pick out significance from seemingly meaningless historical detail...that is, separate the wheat from the chaff. Mr. Nicholl has done that. Shakespeare is an ephemeral character, famously mysterious. In this book, the author synthesizes a realistic scenario that fits the very faint historical record. I find this remarkable. This book was chosen for a Historical Book Club I participate in, and although we're delayed in meeting because of the pandemic, I look forward to the discussion.
