The subject touches the Revolutionary history of Massa chusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Officers and soldiers from these States lie buried in this region, making it common ground for all. It is the duty and the privilege of our Society to preserve the details of this ser vice and perpetuate the memory of the men who performed it. The publication of this volume marks the beginning of the sixteenth year of the existence of the Society, with its prospects brighter than ever, its membership increasing, its influence more widely extended, and with new Opportunities for usefulness. Mr. Edwards S. Sanford has recently added five hundred dollars to the Publication Fund, constituted by him, by means of which the Society is enabled to print its memoirs.
