Well nigh half a century has passed since Benjamin Evans made known to English students the documents in the archives of the Mennonite Church bearing on our subject. No excuse is needed for drawing the attention of a fresh generation to their importance. In conclusion I desire to acknowledge the kindness of the librarians of the Bodleian British Museum, Cam bridge University, Dr. Williams s, Sion College, and York Minster libraries in giving me facilities for research. I also thank Principal S. W.
