Excerpt from Family History J ohannes lichtenwallner, the common auces tor of the lichtenwalner family in this country, was born at or near Kolmberg, Germany, in about the year 1708. He emigrated to America, settling in Pennsylvania, in the year I7 3 3. His P ass p 0 r t, which document it was necessary for him to obtain from the proper authorities before leaving his native country, has been handed down from gen eration to generation, and is still well preserved and quite legible, notwithstanding its age. It is written in the German language upon a large sheet of sheepskin and is now in the possession of E. J. Lichtenwalner, Esq., of Allentown, Pa who has the honor of being the oldest son of the oldest son, from the common ancestor down to the present generation. The passport is written in a language which has largely be come antiquated, also in letters, many of which have changed in form, and for these reasons it has been a difficult task to translate it into modern German or into English. The Rev. Thomas W. Dickert, of Macungie, Pa., kindly consented to translate it into English, and he succeeded most admirably, though not without much pains-taking labor. The passport is here given in the original, with the only exception that Roman letters have been substituted in place of the German, together with its translation into English by Rev. Dickert.
