They could not bear the thought that the bodies should remain hanging upon the cross during the greatest day of the feast.l Besides, they doubtless felt a mysterious impulse from an evil conscience Which urged them to hurry into the grave the body of Jesus, which hung upon the cross as a living reproach against them.
