At the cost of an expensive war, made by the South, and for Southern objects, a portion of the Mexican territory has been added to the Union, and nothing but squatter sovereignty secured any part of it to the occupation of Northern men. Cuba is now to be purchased, at the cost of a hundred millions, for the South. The Gadsden treaty, at a cost of twenty millions, secures more territory for the South.
