With 26 illustrations by Chic Young and text written by him, this book makes for a great companion work to the newspaper strip. And it's fun to compare how the characters looked then and how they look today; and I know they are drawn by new people today. And Blondie is still Blondie; and Dagwood still Dagwood; and the movies starring Arthur Lake and Penny Singleton were the best. I grabbed this book off the shelf as soon as I spotted it in a used book store to go along with my Blondie movies. I had no idea such existed really, and to find so many of them out there is amazing, and new editions as well. We all need a laugh and this book will make you laugh, and often laugh at yourself as you recognize yourself in some of the situations--that's what a good cartoonist can do, create social commentary without disrupting your sensibilites or outrage at the situation. Written in 1944 it might be a bit dated to the younger generation, but if you love the comic page, especially the tried and true strips, this book is for you.
