The lady who wrote this had a very hard life and this is seen in the pages of this book. The grammar and syntax in this book are very basic as one would expect from someone who educated herself in later life. However, when reading you sense that a real person is communicating with you in her own voice. The book also indirectly gives the reader a really good insight into what it was like to work "downstairs" in big and small house alike. You can see this lady interviewed on YouTube and she is a real card.
