I've come to loathe the word "genre". It's patronizing. Whether a book is a police procedural, sci fi, or chicklit matters not a whit. A novel is either literature, i.e., it reveals the human condition and gives insight into the human heart, or it's not. The Princess of Burundi is an excellent police procedural and a brilliant piece of literature. Kjell Ericksson ranks with the Norwegian author Karin Fossum.. To my mind, there is no higher praise. Read "Princess" and then offer me thanks in your heart for my recommendation. I could use the good karma.

Prize-winning Swedish mystery
Small town life in Sweden is rocked by a mutilation murder in this award-winning Swedish procedural. There is as much to learned here about Sweden's sociological insights as there is about the murder of a local family man. Many new Scandanavian mystery writers are being translated and available in the US and will be appreciated by readers of quality writing who want more depth and less blood and gore on their reading list.
