A readable travelogue and a classic of field biology. The author shares credit with Charles Darwin for the theory of Evolution by Natural Selection. His travels through what is now Indonesia brought much of the biology of this area to the attention of European scientists in the mid 19th century. This reprint of his journals is well presented except for the complete lack of maps. I read much of it with the atlas open next to me.
