The characters are multi-talented, each are able to write and rewrite our understanding of them as pertains to their decisions and placing in life. Pere is at once a pitiful character and one that we can sympathize with as well as despise. He airs out the weakness of the human spirit and the author is honest in his confrontation of the Urbane consciousness!
