Excellent Book
I loved this book.
Michelle, Cass, and Denny are living on the poverty line. With their mother in jail and Michelle' only part time job at Taco Bell to sustain the siblings. They all set out to find the father who deserted them years ago. They travel in an old beat up station wagon from Baltimore all the way to California. With troubles along the way, the meet up with their other siblings. With their father dying in a hospice in California, the siblings hope for closure. The siblings live off of free samples of food from food courts, and siphon gas along the way from others traveling down the highways. They do anything they can to get them to California. When their station wagon breaks down close to LA, they get a bus to take them into California. But when they get there, their father has died. He promised them something of value.
This book is filled with a compassionate look at how racial and social privileges affects one family in crisis.
Loved the story. A must for all.
