It's a fairly specialized field, but anyone who studies visual perception should know Chevreul's pioneering work on the effects of neighboring and contrasting colors on one another, and on the way the colors are perceived. His scientific discoveries were very influential on the art world -- Georges Seurat and Paul Signac based a lot of their pointillist and divisionist painting techniques on their understanding of Chevreul.
The book is also available in English translation, but it's nice to be able to read it exactly the way it was originally expressed. This reprint of Chevreul's book is well printed and bound, as well.
