John was the progenitor of the Earl's of Limerick, Willam and Thomas. Colonel Thomas Dongan was also a governor of colonial New York when his distant cousins were settled in the province of Pennsylvania. They knew of each other then, as later evidence has proven. In any case, John Dongan was a sheriff and Aldermen of the city of Dublin, and he was related to other prominent Dublin and Kildare families. John died in 1592.
