John Theilmann's autobiography is a classic tale of an immigrant escape in search of freedom from oppression. To us in the Western Hemisphere until more recent years, the story of immigrants coming to the New World has been in direction one from east to west. Mr, Theilmann's story is unique in that the direction of escape is from the west to the east. His escape from Russia into China, his travel through Korea & Japan to the west Coast of the United States is a scenario filled with suspense & with repeated deliverance. The word deliverance has been used advisedly. From the beginning of his long trek to the establishment of his new life in Reedley, California, John Theilmann's story is an illustration of what Solomon's words in his book of Proverbs portray when he says "...the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter & brighter until the full day," Prov. 4:18. Having entrusted his life into his Savior's care at an early age, John Theilmann experienced a continued unfolding of the protection, guidance, & grace in adversity anyone who has done likewise experiences in any given age. The events of his escape, his courtship & marriage, the years of provision at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles including his participation in the tour to raise funds for the Institute, his family's move to the San Francisco Bay area - all give witness to the fact that God does make Himself responsible to keep the promises He has made to those, like John Theilmann, who have established a Father-son relationship with Him through faith in Jesus Christ. Quotes from readers: "I quickly read through your book "Escape to Freedom" & it was truly a blessing to me. Now I am going to go through it more slowly. We indeed have a great God."--A. P. Los Altos. "I am absolutely thrilled to have your book. Once you made up your mind to write it, you did not stop. That's wonderful.
