I've been a fan of Orson Scott Card for years, beginning with Ender's Game and moving (still) through the rest of his works. I find him to be a great storyteller, especially in the areas of fantasy and science fiction. However, one of my favorites of his was Lost Boys, because it gave an outsider an inside look at the lives of a Mormon family. Folk of the Fringe does the same, but in a post-apocolyptic setting. Due to the brevity of the book and of the stories, it isn't nearly as informative and engaging as Lost Boys, yet the stories are touching and easy to identify with. While I stay current reading Card's latest, I continue to read his earlier work - like Fringe, and it is definitely worth it.
