Bruce Nicolas Berger (1938-2021) was an American nonfiction writer, poet and pianist. He was best known for a series of books exploring the intersections of nature and culture in desert environments. Berger's book The Telling Distance: Conversations with the American Desert won the 1990 Western States Book Award and the Colorado Book Award. He was a long time resident of Aspen, Colorado, and often wrote about his experiences there. Bruce Berger's poems have appeared in Poetry, The New York Times, Barron's, Orion, The Hudson Review and many other journals, and have been collected in Facing the Music (Confluence Press). Widely anthologized, his poems have appeared in Outsiders, Verse and Universe, Urban Nature, The Geograhy of Hope, Mixed Voices and many other collections.
