Using journal format, Steven W. Manskar urges modern Christians to adapt the traditions of justice, compassion, and works of piety in ways that move our focus beyond inner spiritual needs toward acts of ministry in the world. Using the Revised Common Lectionary (Year C), this prayer journal includes Bible readings for every day and guides readers to note particular acts of compassion and justice, as well as works of devotion and worship, and prayer concerns. Each week includes a quotation from John Wesley, with a suggested hymn that connects with the readings. The book enables users to meet in small groups to hold one another accountable as Christian disciples. A Disciple's Journal has been a vital part of Cabinet covenant community life in both Missouri and Nebraska. With this journal we have a daily lectionary, Wesleyan material, and a space that calls us to reflect on scripture and our own acts of piety, worship, compassion, and justice. What a helpful tool for our spiritual journey! Bishop Ann B. Sherer, Nebraska Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.
