Each of the six volumes of the Solos for Young Violinists series is available both as books (a 2-book set that includes a violin part, violin & piano part) and as audio music (CD or cassette). The front cover of the book cross-references the Suzuki level of proficiency presumed to master each of the 8 pieces that Barbara Barber compiled and edited for Volume 2. Judging from my children's experiences with Solos for Young Violinists, the Suzuki-equivalents are valid for both Volumes 1 (Suzuki grades 1 through 4) and 2 (Suzuki grades 4 through 6). The violin part is clearly printed and easy to view, with 10 to 12 lines per page and plenty of interpretation guides. We have been so pleased with Solos for Young Violinists that we have purchased all six book volumes (now out of priint) in anticipation of future mastery and continue searching for the music CDs for volumes 3 and 5. One improvement to the series would be if the CD contained "accompaniment only" tracks that the young violinists could use for performing these pieces.
