This is a fair and balanced book on the history of the Church of God whose headquarters is in Cleveland, Tennessee. It is an authorized denominational story of the people who began the Church which is commonly called the "tongues speaking" Church or was known as the "Holy Roller" Church in its formative years. It tells of the trials and tribulations of the early days of the Church of God. It is well written by an author who is part of the pentecostal movement in Christianity. He does not gloss over the failures of some of the early leaders. He traces the evolution of the Church of God in a way that makes for a very interesting read. My personal experience of attending the Church of God during my teen years helped me appreciate the later history after leaving to join a mainline denomination. My conversion experience took place in the Church of God so I have always appreciated the positive effect it had on my life. Readers who want to understand the past and present place of the Church of God in the family of churches will enjoy reading this book. Methodman
