Everything you need to know!
I have had a copy of this book for years, and have found it to be the best reference book I have come across. My first copy is now dog-eared and 30 years old! I am a very experienced dressmaker, but this is the one book I would not be without. I have bought newer, updated versions of this book to give to friends who are keen to learn how to sew. (There's enough information, clearly explained to ensure that I am not too much in demand when my novice friends embark upon their new hobby!) Whether you are highly skilled, or a beginner, this is the book to have at your side - perfect to dip in and out of.
Ann Ladbury gently and expertly guides you through, from equipment and types of fabrics, to hand stiching, and types of machined seams, hems, bindings, etc. Zips, fasteners, patterns are all explained. Each part of a garments' contruction is given its own section.
Each sections starts with a page of editorial, enlightening the reader with historical and general information, along with photos & illustrations. All the techniques are set out with very detalied drawings and clear instructions.
There is also a section on soft furnishing with useful information on making curtains, blinds, cushions, loose covers, etc.
The final section covers an overview of decorative hand stiching and embroidery.
All in all, if you purchase this book, I think you will agree with me - Ann Ladbury has produced a thoroughly enjoyable and very useful book!
