Classic text on model shipbuilding
Originally written in 1958, this book doesn't specifically deal with modern wooden model ship kits. However, it does explain how to build and rig a plank on frame model in much more detail than more recent books on the subject. Therefore it provides much more background detail on ship construction than absolutely necessary for modern plank on bulkhead construction typically used in modern kits. This additional background is very useful in understanding how to build and detail the structure of your ship model. Planking is done the same in both types of models and it is explained quite clearly in this book. The set is filled with clear drawings and diagrams explaining each step of the process. The photos of completed models are too small and don't have enough detail to be truly useful in many cases, but the drawings are excellant. The rigging discussions seem sufficient for the beginning and intermediate modeler, but the advanced or more critical modeler may wish for more detailed information.
