Wayne D. Overholser, whether writing under this his real name or one of his many pen names always writes a good story. The Law at Miles City is no exception. Another of those writers born out west--Washington state--he knows of the land of which he writes. And he writes with a sensitivity that shows the reader his feelings about whatever subject or complication arises to confront the protagonist in the story. Dave Harmon, this story's hero, has his bad traits and moments, but he is a man of his word no matter what. So after he takes the job as marshal and Miles City turns out to have more trouble than he first believed he is forced to continue to be the law because he gave his word. This book is quite the character study.
