Excellent scientific monograph
Peter Bellwood's 'Prehistory of the Indo-Malaysian Archipelago' appears to be the most valuable contribution to study of first stages of the Malays and Indonesians. It reconstructs the society of the Austronesians who were the ancestors of modern nations of Malaysia and Indonesia, and the ways by which they dispersed over the Archipelago. This is the second, updated edition of the monograph. Despite it's a scientific book, you undoubtedly will enjoy reading it. By the way, I should emphasize that it's devoted to highly complicated and serious scientific problem so that if you want to get a pleasure only, I recommend you to find other books.
Bellwood's monograph is among the first choice for anyone interested in the human past, especially of Southeast Asia
