More than just a commemorative volume, the anthology offers a cross section of much of the best American poetry being written. It offers work by many of the best known poets and work by exciting younger writers whose publication has always been a focus of the series. "The Pittsburgh Book of Contemporary American Poetry" is a useful and inexpensive anthology for classroom use in literature and creative writing courses, and a good general introduction to contemporary American poetry for the general reader.
