One does not expect this story. You cannot anticipate the next events or how the plot will unfurl (even though you will try). It appears one way and veers in another direction. By the time you realize what "may" be going on, you are thrown another twist. The hero in this story is a flawed man and adds to the suspense. His past mistakes come to the fore and make the plot workable as someone works a devious plot using him as bait/fallguy. It is who uses him that shocks.... It is not until nearly the end that the reader will realize the full scope of the plot, nor why. That devious plots do not always go according to plan is shown as testament in this novel. That a woman has to work with a love lost is typical of this type of story. His redeeming qualities are hidden while his need to clear his name is singleminded. The heroine is distrustful nearly the whole story, even while trying to aid him. She is a strong character that is willing to do anything necessary to clear his name and find her sister - even at the cost of her heart. What more could a reader ask for?
