i found this book to be very entertaining as are all of their books with just the right amount of of sex intertwined within the story

Two stories - One book
This is two separate stories told in one book. Each is about a cousin with a different affliction that carries on in their family lines for centuries. Each agrees that it is time to bring in an "Outsider" (a person of blood separate from their own clan) to start the process of "clensing" the blood line of characteristics that make them hunted by many and also make them fragile to things like sunlight. Yes, they are more than human and wish to "water" down the blood of unsavory genes, but also to start on a path of life that has been gone from them for over 30 years (since the last child was borne). For each member that meets with death, there is no baby to grow up in its place, yet. The first cousin (Cathal) is more like a wolf in his characteristics and he wishes to gain a wife to have children. Bridget literally falls into his lap when she is saved by his cousin and brought to his bed chamber one night. He is determined to woo her and have her as his wife to bear him children. She has a secret about her clan also (Cats) and stays as she wants a husband and children and was headed to court to find one. They fall in love but his clan members have some difficulty with it. In paticular, a couple of cousins - one who wishes Cathal for herself and another who wishes for lairdship. There is danger, but the story is only half a book, so it is swift telling due to length. They end up wed and kiddos are born. Connell is the other story in the book. His side of the family carries the genes that make him Vampire - rather than wolf. He purchases a woman from a greedy brother. Their story is more straightforward in that the deal is done by the time Eva is brought to him as the marriage took place the day she was bought. She is a nice woman beset by clumsiness. This clumsiness is a danger to them all as she has many "accidents". And , they really are just accidents - she trips on stuff and is a tad careless. But she is a delight in her honesty and straightforwardness. There is a danger to Connell that has caused his near death a few times. Connell finally falls in love with Eva and she turns out to be a saviour to him when she thwarts an attempt on his life. However, this is when she finds out what he is. Undeterred as she now loves this man, she stays. The real danger comes when he wishes to reward her love and kindness (and her gift of saving his life) when he takes to her the water (he only desire since coming as she has asked for nothing ever). While there to declare love - they are set upon by the person who really wishes to see Connell dead. You will enjoy the book, regardless of the mystical issues of vampirism, etc. This is a good first to Highland Thirst about Connells son and his cousin (son to Jankyn - who appeared in Cathals story).

Nice twist
I like Howell and Sands, I like the twist of cousins trying to breed out genetics that make their clan too different. The guys are hot, there is some intrigue and the girls are brave and funny.
