Amidst the slew of new age guides detailing the "occult" very few dive beneath the surface to provide more of the obscure knowledge. Lewis Spence's Encyclopedia of Occultism gives concise facts and names concerning various areas within the subject of the occult.
For example, you can find the meaning behind the words abacadabra and in the next section find out about Will O'Wisps or changlings.
Essentially, if you are in need of a useful text for a story or a report, I highly suggest this one.
Personally, I had to do some research for a short project. This book was able to not only inform me on the basics, it cross-referenced other terms associated with it.
