In the second half of the 20th century, the phenomenon of collaborative printmaking brought printers together with painters and sculptors to produce works of uncommon creative and technical excellence. This commitment to print perfection was nowhere stronger than in Minneapolis, where the gifted master printer, Steven Andersen, established Vermillion Editions Limited in 1977. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts began acquiring the Vermillion workshop's archives in 1983. In this comprehensive catalogue, more than 300 works, reproduced in color, record the diverse accomplishments of the 85 artists who passed through Vermillion's doors. Capsule biographies of the artists, a glossary of printmaking terms, and dozens of vivid documentary photos round out the volume. -from the cover.
