Like Liebovitz's first big anthology (Photographs 1970-1990) this compilation by the now premiere portrait photographer in the world (selected by the Royal Family to photograph and commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee-as a portrait photographer you can't get any assignment even approaching the prestige of this) is every bit as astonishing technically, and, finally, a great deal more personal-Annie has remained somewhat a pretty private person for many years-than the earlier magnum opus. Best example: a completely nude full height shot of Annie herself (taken by her long-time companion the intellectual giant Susan Sontag) in profile with enormous breasts, a huge pendulous and pregnant belly and no cosmetic or other adornment whatsoever. THAT, my friends, is as courageous a photograph, and it's full-page publication authentically heroic. This book is a treasure, extraordinarily well made with the best of materials and production values. How it could "disappoint" someone who purports to be a longtime fan of the artist is quite beyond my comprehension. The controversial photo essay of the protracted death from cancer of Annie's lover Susan Sontag is heartbreaking when you think of how the photographer must have agonized.

SAVE your MONEY
Big disappointment for fans of Liebovitz's work. I can't even say if it was something extremely personal on her part and viewers will miss what she was up to, or if it was just thrown together by her FOR THE MONEY. NOT what was expected by a long shot.
