Seller's Description:
Abakanowicz, Magdalena. Fine in Fine jacket. 4to-over 9¾"-12" tall. 224pp, 148 illustrations including 47 plates in full colour. Book in near perfect condition with very slight yellowing of page edges, and owners' sticker in top corner of first page. Dark brown boards with silver gilt lettering on spine. Dust jacket has one or two very light marks and spine has faded a bit, otherwise excellent, with reproduction of 'Crowd 1 (detail) 1987'. Barbara Rose's text is based on numerous interviews she had with Magdalena Abakanowicz, and traces the development of her uncompromising, unflinching sculpture against the background of her life, from her early years in an aristocratic family in Poland, through the war years, and life under the Soviet Union through to liberation and independence in the 1980s. Despite this tumultuous and difficult history, Abakanowicz has emerged as one of the most revolutionary and provocative of contemporary sculptors. Includes a chronology, list of plates, exhibition history, collections and selected bibliography. This is a heavy book @ 1.75kg, and may require extra postage, especially outside the UK.
