As a birth mother of a daughter I gave up for adoption 48 years ago, I found GATHERING THE MISSING PIECES IN AN ADOPTIVE LIFE an excellent resource. At the end of each chapter Kay gives great ideas and suggestions to each member of the "triad", e.g. adopting parent/s, adoptee, birth parent/s.
A friend who has founded several triad support groups recommended GATHERING THE MISSING PIECES IN AN ADOPTIVE LIFE as I began my seach for my daughter - 47 years later! This is not to say it guarantees you will find your parent - or child, but will help you deal with the fears, anxieties and/or pit-falls of searching, as well giving wise councel regarding what to say, or NOT say ...or do... if the search is successful.
I've not only recommended this book to several friends, but have given it to my (NEWLY FOUND) daughter and her husband who is now considering doing a search for his birth mother!
If YOU were adopted and are considering searching for your birth mother/father, I firmly believe GATHERING THE MISSING PIECES IN AN ADOPTIVE LIFE will be and encouragement as well as answer many of your questions.
If you HAVE an adopted child who may have a desire to search for his/her birth parent I STRONGLY recommend GATHERING THE MISSING PIECES IN AN ADOPTIVE LIFE!
If you are a birth parent considering a search for your child, I can't think of another book I would recommend more highly .
