Tracing the voyages of James Cook, revisiting the scenes noted in ship diaries, and supplementing those details with a biography and the life and times in old England, Horwitz delviers with an excellent read. Poignant, funny, and informative, modern day issues are contrasted with several hundred year old descriptions. You don't need to be a sailor or a history buff to enjoy this book -- you just need a sense of adventure. The author uses his investigative skills to find interesting characters and wonderful settings. Great book.

bold adventures
Perfect for the world traveler (myself) or the armchair adventurer alike, this book addresses and retraces Cook's Pacific voyages with equal touches of insight and irreverence. Highly reccomended for travelers, past travelers, history buffs, nonhistory buffs, Anglophiles, people who like to poke fun at the British, Pacific buffs, and those who couldn't even pronounce Niue if something grand depended on it.
