The front board has a 3/4" x 1/4" surface tear that reveals the white underlying area. The spine is lightly scuffed. The binding is straight and strong. In contrast to the shelf-wear described to the boards, the interior is in such nice condition, I doubt the book has been read more than once (if at all). This 9-1/8" x 12-1/2" hardcover was published on the occasion of the exhibition presented at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, Sept. 9, 2013-Feb. 8, 2016. Throughout his long career, Richard Diebenkorn always kept a sketchbook to capture his ideas. Scattered across these books are deeply personal sketches of his wife and studies of the human figure, grand landscape studies, and evidence of the development and maturation of Diebenkorn's signature approaches to figuration and abstraction. Taken together, these sketchbooks offer a nearly complete look at his career, from his twenties to the years just before his death at age seventy. Diebenkorn's twenty-nine sketchbooks are represented, including one reproduced in its entirety. Illustrated with more than 500 full-color images.
