Gabriel Flynn has compiled a centenary tribute to Yves Cardinal Congar (1904-1995) -- Dominican priest, distinguished Catholic theologian, passionate ecumenist, and leading proponent of the "nouvelle thiologie.""Yves Congar" examines Congar's role and significance as a theologian of the Church. Crossing disciplinary borders, the volume reflects on Congar's contribution to ecumenism, interreligious dialogue, and theology, especially that of the Church and of the Holy Spirit. The contributors -- experts in theology, ecumenism, philosophy, and history from nine countries -- are in many respects representative of Congar's interests. An important goal of the work is to stimulate a renewed engagement with the "ressourcement" of the Second Vatican Council, for which Congar served as a theological advisor. If this volume contributes to making this legacy of Vatican II more accessible and more widely applied, it will have rendered fitting tribute to Cardinal Congar.
