Still others consider Salmon Rushdie's "Satanic Verses", firstly, as the textual representation of the objects anthropologists study (religion, migration, gender and cultural identity); secondly, as a political act in itself; and thirdly, as an example of the larger encounter between Western modernity and a non-Western "other".
