The number of one-person theatrical performances has been on the rise in recent years with more actors and actresses committing themselves to this challenging and daring form of drama. This work presents a complete survey of solo theater from its beginnings in the 18th century in the form of dramatic biographies of historical figures to the 21st century performers who stage intimate conversation-type dramas. A major feature of the work is the detailed registry that provides information on many hundreds of solo performers (criterion: they performed by themselves for at least one hour). Some of the names are well known, and others not so familiar, but all of the actors have faced audiences on their own. A significant feature of this work are the many photographs.
