I am reading this aloud to my kids while homeschooling history. Because the author is German, I need to supplement with American history materials. Also, it ends at WWII, so we will need more sources for modern history. Still, this is a gentle, well-written, and engaging introduction to the study of world history for kids.

This disingenuous, erudite book for younger readers is the best sort of history for parents and grandparents to read aloud to the children. Everyone learns, no one is bored and the quiet humor is much appreciated by all.
