Scary
Ah, to start at the beginning.
I've read quite a few of Lisa Gardner's newer works and I've become a HUGE fan.
So I decided to go back to where it all started.
It was a joy seeing the groundwork being lain for what would become the trademarks of a master:
Terrific plotting and structure, shocking revelations, head-spinning chapter endings, thrilling action, "real" and complex characters, and dynamic storytelling.
This is billed as Quincy & Rainie #1 although Pierce Quincy has more of a guest starring role and Lorraine "Rainie" Conner is not in it at all.
Two years ago Tess Williams turned in her husband, Jim Beckett, for being a serial killer. He raped and murdered ten women. He put the "psycho" in psychopath. He swore that one day Tess would pay for her betrayal.
Now, Beckett's broken out of Walpole maximum security prison and begun a new killing spree.
He plans to keep his promise to his ex-wife.
Tess is on the run and her 4-year-old daughter, Samantha, is in hiding.
Tess heads for Nogales, Arizona to enlist the help of J.T. Dillon, ex-special forces.
She wants him to train her in endurance, hand-to-hand combat and weaponry.
Tess has a plan of her own.
This leans a little more towards romantic suspense.
I enjoyed it very much.
