An absolutely phenomenal, touching tiny little story about an AI (kinda, it's built partially using cloned human bits) gaining free agency and grappling with the anxieties of its interactions with the humans its meant to serve and protect. This anxiety being caused by the fact that, well, he's not supposed to have that free agency. It's great, I loved it and seriously had no major complaints. The characters are all as well-constructed as they need to be for the story and setting. The social anxieties Murderbot feels are well-described and easily sympathized with throughout. I felt a very vivid tinge of suspense at a couple scenes from the delivery as well! The only real complaint I had was the lack of description into the fauna on the planet, nearly everything is described using words like "insects", "avians", or "reptiles." Making you think this planet has nearly the same fauna as Earth, which is hard to believe. This could have been done in a lot more fascinating a way, but was easily looked over. Overall, All Systems Red is honestly one of the best reads I've had this year. Even if you don't end up agreeing with me... come on, look at how tiny it is and just give it a go.

Fantastic!
This was an incredible story, thrilling and so very human (even though we're seeing everything through the eyes of something that's not totally human). I freaking loved Murderbot, of course, but the secondary characters were fantastic too. I cannot recommend this book and series enough! If you love sci-fi (or even if you don't), pick this one up!
