This book is brilliant to read to nursery children and p1's to discuss thoughts and feelings about school. It gives the p1 children a feeling of superiority because they all come to school, they are not afraid like Lola. It also comforts the nursery children who realise that it is ok to feel apprehensive about going into school.
Charlie is Lola's big brother. He spends the entire book trying to find ways to convince Lola that school willl be good. Lola always has an answer for him.
It has a lovely page on counting to ten, Lola thinks that it is enough to be able to count to ten.
Like all of the Charlie and Lola books it uses a collage of different images and graphics, some are photos, some are drawings. It creates a very rich stimulus for the children to look at. The text is also used to shape the story, it is physically looped and used as environmental print throughout the book, making it even more interesting to look at.
Definately a good one to start off with Charlie and Lola.
