This is a very interesting little book made up of comments by former Waffen SS members organized and tied together with insightful observations by Mr. Williamson. Those interviewed (published 1995) are unfortunately from the lower ranks with less time in service as those who joined earlier tended to get killed off and the higher ranks who survived the war died off. It is printed on very high quality paper and includes many pictures that I had not previously seen. Subjects covered include the motivation for joining the SS, the treatment of foreigners who joined the SS, the treatment by the allies after surrender, the treatment by German civilians after the war, and their opinion of Hitler and other leaders. A very interesting little book, very well done, and welcome on my bookshelves as a "keeper." I think most folks interested in WWII will enjoy it.
