"My Teacher for President" by Kathy Winters is a children's book that introduces the responisbilities of the president in a fun, humorous, and student friendly way. When second grader Oliver is learning about the presidential elections in his class he decides to write a letter to his local news station to give them reasons why his teacher, Mrs. Robbins, would make a great canidate for president. Some reasons Oliver lists are that his teacher is a good listener, wants to save the earth, and likes to go on trips just to name a few. There are very few words on each page and the print is quite large making this a good read aloud book for a Kindergarten,1st, or 2nd grade teacher to read to their class, as well as being at an appropriate reading level for many students at the same grade levels. Not only does this book introduce the topic of presidents well, but it is also written in letter form so the topic of letter writing can be discussed as well while reading this book. I simply love this book "My Teacher for President" by Kathy Winters not only for the story tiself but the addition of Denise Brunkus's colorful and humourous illustrations that add to this already sweet and charming story.
