Outstanding Reference on the Silver Beast
This is the best single reference work I have seen on the Lightning, bar none. The book takes you through the development of Britain's first supersonic jet fighter, the details of why it was so light on fuel and what was done to compensate, its service record as a Quick Reaction Alert interceptor for incoming Soviet recon aircraft, armament... of the various versions, and the reasons why it remained in service long past its intended life. This is the full story of the bird that was a mainstay of Britain's fighter-interceptor deterrent through much of the Cold War, on front-line duty with NATO in Germany and elsewhere. A brilliant work, loaded with photos, ideal for historians and modelers. Highly recommended.
