Jock Lewes was one of the co-founders of the original S.A.S. Editor Michael Wise is Mirren Barford's son and the letters were found at the time of her death in February 1992. After leaving Oxford she joined a military intelligence unit, met and married an American, Captian Carl Wise, and moved with him to the US after the war ended.
