This book is (just like its successor, 'More Random Walks') an absolute delight. It has anecdotes and information from every disciplne of science; some are old, some new; some are by famous people, some by unknowns; some are serious, some jocular. But all are interesting, fascinating, illuminating and - yes! - genuinely informative, and presented in a very easy-to-read and entertaining way.
It should be read by and will appeal to everyone from teeenagers who are dubious about science, to senior citizens who think they've read it all, and everyone else in between.
In our age, when science has become serious business, it's refreshing to see what was once considered serious and to have a more-than-occasional very good laugh without detracting one iota from the real seriousness of science.
Should be a MUST in any book collection whose owner thinks he has interesting volumes to boast about.
